Tom Gibson is a comedian, writer, podcaster and researcher with a wide range of experience in a number of creative fields.
He possesses very few practical skills, which may be a result of avoiding non-creative activities his whole life or just because he spends so much of his time daydreaming.
Tom has performed his mad brand of stand-up comedy in comedy clubs and festivals across Australia for over a decade, including at the Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra comedy festivals. He has also organised comedy venues and events, including jointly establishing Beyond Comedy, Canberra’s first comedy show curated specifically to be inclusive of female and non-binary comedians.
In 2022, Tom completed a Creative PhD at the University of Canberra that focused on the way authors of Young Adult Fiction portray the identity development of their protagonists. His PhD included writing a humorous Young Adult novel inspired by the findings of his research. Tom has also been published over fifty times in various online publications, such as the Canberra Times, Roar.com and the Bateman’s Bay Post.
In 2023, Tom launched Yeah, But How?, a series of interviews with creative professionals that uncovers what it takes to make it in a creative industry. Yeah, But How? is available on You Tube and as a podcast wherever you get your podcasts.
Tom lives in Canberra with his wife and two kids, and their two cats who Tom doesn’t remember agreeing to get but loves anyway.
“Tom Gibson is a superstar.”
